What we do

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation is an independent philanthropic foundation dedicated to improving the lives of those in our northern rivers communities who are in most need of support.

Community Foundations are the fastest growing form of philanthropy worldwide. They provide legally recognised ways for individuals and businesses to donate to their communities easily and effectively.

Donations to the Foundation are either for general giving purposes where the donations are pooled to form a capital base, the corpus, which is invested; or they flow through into a specific funding initiative that has been selected by NRCF and the donor, such as the Back to School Program.

Donations for general giving purposes are held in perpetuity, our corpus. The income and dividends from corpus funds are distributed via an annual Grants Program.  In this way a donor’s gift continues to benefit the community year after year.

Income received from investments and flow through funding is distributed to the Northern Rivers community through the annual Grants Program. The Grants Program supports social, environmental, cultural, health and education needs across the Northern Rivers, from Grafton Yamba, Maclean, and Evans Head to the Tweed Valley along the coast and west to Murwillumbah, Kyogle and Casino. The Grants Program requires not for profit organisations to submit applications as to how they propose to use the funds. These applications are assessed by a Grants Committee whose goal is to provide a fair & equitable Grants program that is accessible for all communities across the Northern Rivers.
