What projects can the Foundation fund?

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation supports social, environmental and cultural projects in the Northern Rivers region.

It acts for charitable purposes as a community foundation. This status determines the projects the Foundation can support.

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation Ltd (the company) is the Trustee of two separate trusts:

  • The Northern Rivers Community Foundation (‘the Trust’)
  • The Northern Rivers Community Projects Fund ('the Projects Fund')

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation (the Trust)

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation is an Income Tax Exempt Charity and Deductible Gift Recipient. Grants from this Trust can only be made to organisations with Deductible Gift Recipient status whose activities are consistent with the Foundation’s aims and priorities.

Deductible Gift Recipients are organisations who are entitled to receive income tax deductible gifts. These organisations fall within general categories set out in income tax law. These categories cover areas such as health, welfare and rights, research, the environment and cultural organisations. The Australian Taxation Office has endorsed more than 19,000 Deductible Gift Recipients.

The Northern Rivers Community Projects Fund (the Projects Fund)

The Northern Rivers Community Projects Fund is not limited by this Deductible Gift Recipient status. Grants from this fund may be applied to a range of community projects for charitable purposes, not only to ATO endorsed Deductible Gift Recipients.
